All of our missionaries have been memorizing the "Standard of Truth," in English or in Spanish during this last change. It is powerful and they are accomplishing great things too:
“The Standard of Truth has been erected; no unhallowed hand can stop the work from progressing; persecutions may rage, mobs may combine, armies may assemble, calumny may defame, but the truth of God will go forth boldly, nobly, and independent, till it has penetrated every continent, visited every clime, swept every country, and sounded in every ear, till the purposes of God shall be accomplished, and the Great Jehovah shall say the work is done."

WELCOME!
Bienvenidos a la Mision Chile Santiago Norte! We love the Savior, and are blessed to be part of this great work, to share His gospel, and invite others to come unto Him. We are grateful to have this incredible opportunity to associate with such fine young men and women and other couples who are serving in this wonderful part of the vineyard. We decided to share this mission through a blog, with any who would like to know more.... All of the lessons, talks, training, conferences, and meetings are obviously done totally in Spanish, but for the sake of this writer, the notes are here in English, for speed in typing, and therefore, mixed with a bit of both worlds. We hope all of our missionaries, families, and loved ones can enjoy this blog, in spite of the writing, grammar, language, errors, etc. This will be a miraculous journey, and we invite you to share and enjoy it with us.
Lovingly, con cariño,
Presidente Michael May

Election Day in Chile,
Yesterday was a special day for Chile. Because of the democracy that exists here in this blessed country, they were able to hold a free election in which the people had the opportunity to vote for their candidate of choice. It brought to mind the 12th Article of Faith that states:
12 We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law.
With a new president being elected, all of Chile now has the responsibility to support him.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is guided by living prophets and apostles who receive revelation from God. God calls individuals to positions of leadership and service through revelation. We have the opportunity as Church members to sustain and support our leaders. As we do so we show the depth of our testimony and our true understanding of the Gospel. In Hebrews 13:17 we read:
17 Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.
As we support and respect those assigned as district leaders, zone leaders and assistants to the president, the Lord will bless us with His spirit. Preach My Gospel teaches us that we should also seek to learn from our leaders, and invite them to suggest ways we can improve.
I have a strong testimony that the Lord puts people in our paths to bless us and help us accomplish all He has sent us to do. As we are humble and teachable and not only accept the counsel of our leaders but also seek their guidance and direction when needed, we will be blessed with greater faith to bring salvation to Heavenly Father´s children. Our ability to find those that the Lord has prepared, teach the gospel of faith unto repentance, be baptized for the remission of sins, receive the precious gift of the Holy Ghost and help individuals to endure to the end will be greatly strengthened as we sustain and support our leaders.
We love you and are grateful for your dedication to the Lord,

Presidential Elections here in Chile!
Yes, Chile now has had elections and voted in a democratic way to have Sebastian Piñera as the new President of the country.
On Sunday, last week, all of the registered voters in Chile must return to their original place of registration to vote in order to avoid a heafty fine/multa. They travel quickly, with purpose that reminds me of Mary and Joseph returning to Bethlehem to be taxed...back in their city from before. Here in Chile, the people line streets, cars, walking, buses, etc to arrive to their schools, churches, places of voting, which are orderly and respectful. These are well protected, and with local carbineros de Chile/police enforcing the discipline, it went off without a hitch. These are not done electronically, so the votes are opened and counted with many witnesses, and they tallies began to come in by 6pm that afternoon. Pdte Pinera ran against Frei, who had previously been the President in Chile. It was a close race, but there were no battles or discussions by the time the votes began to arrive showing a slight lead but consistent from Pinera. By 7pm, Senor Frei conceeded. It was all done in an orderly, respectful and well-organized manner. We were impressed.

Zone Concilio set Goals for the New Year!
Zone leaders came to the mission home to discuss the missionary work together
with President May. They reviewed the past year and looked forward to 2010
working together, setting goals and making plans.
Zone leaders and assistants discussed the great successes they had during 2009, what the Lord blessed us to accomplish, talked about ways to improve. They had so much to talk about, that they all decided to come back the next day to discuss and set more
plans, by adjusting goals, re-addressing the mission standard and how to best
accomplish these ideas. It was a positive, interactive, everyone-participates
kind of activity that demonstrated good counceling, working together.
We have much to be thankful for in our mission, and know that the Lord expects
much more still from each of us. We will put our trust in Jesus Christ and
listen to the Holy Ghost guide us for this new year, 2010. The concilio was followed
by a nice lunch together in the mission home dining rooms, and a group photo. We
love these dear missionaries. What fine leaders they are and will be for the Lord in their futures.

Happy New Year, 2010!
The Mision Chile Santiago Norte had a 3 hour 'Exercise Sports Activity" morning. This was held on Dec 31, 2009, as surprise to the mission, and Hermana May's birthday, to arrange the mission into three separate sections (combining 2-3 zones in each area) from 9am-12noon. The zone leaders helped orchestrate the events.
The zones leaders were given a little money to buy drinks, treats and plan for the sports they all wanted to play. Pdte May, Hermana May, and Sarah traveled from the field in Colina, to the community park in Zapadores, to the Stake Center in San Pablo. The missionaries were so happy as they played soccer, football Americano/touch, Basketball, frisbie, volleyball, ping pong, water balloons, etc. It was a delight in so many ways, and besides a bit of sunburned necks and upper arms, all were in good form and spirits. Many said that they hadn't run, jumped, leaped, etc so much in all their mission, as their typical exercise is much more confined to their rooms, usually. We saw that they were happy, enthusiastic and encouraged to have a great new year ahead of them.

Mission Tour with Elder Carlos Amado
Our Mision Chile Santiago Norte was priviledged to have a member of the 1st Quorum of 70, Elder Carlos Amado, our Area President preside and instruct us during our
3 day mission tour. We held them Dec 15, 16, and 18th. This was a sweet introduction
to welcome in the Christmas season, as we learned more about Faith in Jesus Christ.
Elder Amado spoke to us in three sessions, dividing the mission into 3 groups of about 65 missionaries each over the course of 3 days. We felt his love for the Savior profoundly, as he powerfully shared his testimony of Jesus Christ, describing and teaching about His birth, the Atonement, the Crucifixion, and details of His life. He talked about Him as the Good Shepherd, sharing details about the job of a shepherd, and what is expected of a loving shepherd.
Other topics he discussed:
-Lehi's trip with Nephi.
-Having an eternal perspective, vision in this life.
-Love yourself to then love your neighbor.
-How can we find and grow our faith in Jesus Christ
--Leer, Orar, Meditar, Assistir (reading, praying, meditating and attending church)
-Not lying (mentiras)
-Why people don't obey: (Carnal, sensual, devilish)
-Alma 18--story of Ammon, Church is the Kingdom of God on the earth!
-Teaching doctrine, principles and applications
-When we testify, we teach, and when we teach we should testify.
-One specific day, he spoke about the Law of Chastity.(find ways to get rid of temptations in our lives.
-Power of the Book of Mormon....and much more.
What a gift we truly rec'd these three days, to be taught by a servant of the Lord and have our spirits thrilled and touched to change by the Holy Ghost. We are grateful for the sweet spirit that we had to start the Christmas season in learning
and loving the Savior, Jesus Christ more.
